Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos since iOS 11. It takes about half the space of JPG, but many Windows PCs, Android phones and websites cannot open it.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
Add the files here, choose JPG and download. The converted photos open in every Windows app without installing the HEIF Image Extensions.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At the default quality of 90 the difference is not visible. For a lossless copy, choose PNG — the file will be larger.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The HEIC decoder runs inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device. You can check this in your browser's developer tools: no upload request is made.
Why is the first conversion slower?
The HEIC decoder (about 3 MB) is downloaded the first time you convert a HEIC photo. After that it is cached and conversions start right away. Safari can decode HEIC natively and does not need it.
