About OGG

Lossy

Ogg Vorbis

The open alternative to MP3

OGG files usually contain Vorbis audio, a free and patent-free lossy codec. It is common in video games, on Android and in open-source software.

Strengths
Better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate, and completely royalty-free.
Limitations
Not supported by the iPhone Music app and by many car stereos.

About FLAC

Lossless

Free Lossless Audio Codec

Lossless compression for music lovers

FLAC compresses audio without discarding anything: once decoded, it is bit-for-bit identical to the original, yet takes roughly half the space of WAV.

Strengths
No quality loss, 40–60% smaller than WAV, rich tags and cover art, open and royalty-free.
Limitations
Still much larger than MP3, and not supported by some older devices or by iTunes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert OGG to FLAC?

Add your OGG files to the converter above. FLAC is already selected as the output, so conversion starts right away. When a file is ready, click Download, or use Download all to get a ZIP.

Will converting OGG to FLAC reduce the sound quality?

Nothing more is lost: FLAC stores the decoded OGG audio exactly. It cannot restore detail that the OGG compression already removed, though — the file gets bigger, not better. Convert to FLAC when software requires it or for editing.

Which settings should I use for FLAC?

16-bit keeps CD-quality sources exactly; use 24-bit for high-resolution recordings. FLAC is lossless at any setting, so there is no bitrate to choose.

Are my OGG files uploaded anywhere?

No. The OGG to FLAC conversion runs entirely in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so even private recordings stay on your device.

Can I convert several OGG files to FLAC at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 files; they are converted one after another, and you can download each FLAC file separately or all of them together as a ZIP archive.
