PixNudge

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hash generator

Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of text or files, create HMAC signatures and check a file against a published checksum.

Input

Hashes

Type some text or open a file to see its hashes.

How it works

Frequently asked questions

How do I verify a downloaded file?

Click Hash a file and choose the file, then paste the checksum published by the download site into Compare. The matching algorithm is highlighted; if nothing matches, the file is different from the original.

Is MD5 or SHA-1 still safe?

Both are fine for detecting accidental corruption, but they are broken for security: attackers can create collisions. Use SHA-256 or stronger for signatures and integrity checks, and a dedicated password hash such as Argon2 or bcrypt for passwords.

What is an HMAC?

An HMAC is a hash combined with a secret key. Only someone who knows the key can create or check it, which is why APIs and webhooks use HMAC-SHA256 to sign requests. Enter the key in the HMAC key field.
