Which level should I choose?
Recommended suits most documents. Strong is for scans with many photos. Maximum turns every page into an image and gives the smallest file, but text can no longer be selected.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
Text-only PDFs are usually already compact. Most of the size of large PDFs comes from images, scans and embedded fonts.
