About OGG

Lossy

Ogg Vorbis

The open alternative to MP3

OGG files usually contain Vorbis audio, a free and patent-free lossy codec. It is common in video games, on Android and in open-source software.

Strengths
Better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate, and completely royalty-free.
Limitations
Not supported by the iPhone Music app and by many car stereos.

About MP3

Lossy

MPEG-1 Audio Layer III

The universal audio format

MP3 is the most widely supported compressed audio format. It removes sounds the ear barely notices, shrinking music to about a tenth of its CD size.

Strengths
Plays on virtually every device, app and car stereo. Small files with good quality at 192–320 kbps.
Limitations
Lossy: some detail is lost with every encode. Less efficient than AAC or Opus at low bitrates.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert OGG to MP3?

Add your OGG files to the converter above. MP3 is already selected as the output, so conversion starts right away. When a file is ready, click Download, or use Download all to get a ZIP.

Will converting OGG to MP3 reduce the sound quality?

Both formats are lossy, so re-encoding adds a little loss. Choose a bitrate equal to or higher than the original (for example 192–256 kbps) and the difference will be inaudible.

Which settings should I use for MP3?

For music, 192 kbps is a good balance and 320 kbps is the highest MP3 quality. For speech and podcasts, 96–128 kbps in mono is enough. Leave the sample rate as the original.

Are my OGG files uploaded anywhere?

No. The OGG to MP3 conversion runs entirely in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so even private recordings stay on your device.

Can I convert several OGG files to MP3 at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 files; they are converted one after another, and you can download each MP3 file separately or all of them together as a ZIP archive.
