Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data?

Information stored inside a photo by the camera or phone: the device model, settings, date and time, and often the exact GPS location where it was taken.

Does removing metadata reduce quality?

Not for JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF: only the metadata blocks are removed and the image data is copied unchanged. HEIC, TIFF and AVIF are saved again as JPG or PNG. The orientation is kept so photos still display upright.

Do social networks remove EXIF data?

Many large platforms strip it from public uploads, but email, messengers that send files as documents, cloud links and forums often keep it. Removing it yourself is the safe choice.
