Frequently asked questions
What does OCR do?
Optical character recognition reads the text in images of pages. An invisible text layer is added, so you can search, select and copy the text while the page looks the same.
Which languages are supported?
English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. Select every language used in the document for the best results.
Why is OCR slow the first time?
The recognition engine and language data (2–15 MB per language) are downloaded once and then cached. Recognition itself takes a few seconds per page.
