Frequently asked questions

Which files are included?

favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), PNG favicons in 16, 32 and 48 px, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px), Android icons in 192 and 512 px, site.webmanifest and an HTML snippet.

Why does the Apple touch icon have a background?

iOS shows transparent areas of home-screen icons as black, so the Apple icon always gets a solid background — your chosen color, or white.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Yes. Many tools and older browsers request /favicon.ico directly, so it is best to keep it alongside the PNG icons.
