UUID / GUID generator
Generate random version 4 UUIDs or time-ordered version 7 UUIDs in bulk, and inspect any UUID to see its version, variant and creation time.
Inspect a UUID
Paste a UUID or GUID to see its version, variant and, for time-based versions, when it was created.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use UUID version 4 or version 7?
Version 4 is completely random. Version 7 starts with a millisecond timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes compact. For new database keys, version 7 is usually the better choice.
Can two generated UUIDs be the same?
In practice, no. A version 4 UUID has 122 random bits; you would need to generate billions of UUIDs per second for many years before a duplicate became likely. The random numbers come from your browser's cryptographic generator.
What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?
None in practice. GUID is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit identifier. Use the Uppercase and Wrap in braces options to get the uppercase, brace-wrapped style that Windows tools often show.
