About MP4

Video

MPEG-4 Part 14

Video with a soundtrack

MP4 is the most common video format, and its soundtrack is usually AAC. Converting it to an audio format keeps only the sound and drops the picture.

Strengths
Lets you keep the music, speech, lecture or podcast from a video.
Limitations
The picture is discarded: the result contains audio only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MP4 to OPUS?

Add your MP4 files to the converter above. OPUS is already selected as the output, so conversion starts right away. When a file is ready, click Download, or use Download all to get a ZIP.

Will converting MP4 to OPUS reduce the sound quality?

The soundtrack of the MP4 video is decoded and saved as OPUS. With the default settings it sounds the same as in the video; only the picture is left out.

Which settings should I use for OPUS?

Opus shines at low bitrates: 64 kbps is plenty for speech and 96–128 kbps sounds transparent for almost all music. It always works at 48 kHz internally.

Are my MP4 files uploaded anywhere?

No. The MP4 to OPUS conversion runs entirely in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to a server, so even private recordings stay on your device.

Can I convert several MP4 files to OPUS at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 files; they are converted one after another, and you can download each OPUS file separately or all of them together as a ZIP archive.
